Five Things

> Let's start with what's really important, anyone else ready to binge on Fuller House this weekend?  We've been pushing through Mad Men, already halfway through Season 5, but might need to break for this.!

> Seriously, how freaking cute are these new floral fauna night lights from Land of Nod.  I'm pretty sure Kenley would be much happier with a Rainbow Dash pillowpet, and I'm not I (because let's face it, it's for me) need a $25 + shipping nightlight, but they are so pretty.

> Target is offering Buy 1 Get 1 50% Off women's swimwear, of which their line is full of coveted knock offs.  Nothing like getting a look for less, styles like Mara Hoffman, Marysia, or Maaji.

> Kenley has been doing awesome in her bed.  Aside from one snafu at nap where I tried to put her down early and paid for every minute, she's been doing great.  Of course her stall tactic is just saying "Momp" over and over while I try to walk out.   Not sure how I went from mommy to momp, but yet, renamed once again.

>  I totally purchased Kenley her damn pillow pet between starting and ending this post.  (sigh)  I also made a few Easter basket/Ashlynn birthday purchases too.  The other night, no joke, I got this Elsa dress for less than $2.  With shipping, it was about $5.  I'm sure my little princesses will be very excited, perfect for the Frozen Fever birthday party!

Have a great weekend!

SwaddleDesigns Muslin Blanket Giveaway

Lately, Ashlynn has been in little mommy phase more than ever.  Bitty Baby seems to make her way into all of our outings, occasionally going to school, and of course getting tucked in for bed.  Even though Bitty is learning to walk, she still loves to be swaddled.  I, thankfully, still have a handful of swaddle blankets from the girls babyhood, that we've passed down to Bitty (as well as some of Ashlynn's preemie clothes), and Ashlynn has really gotten the hang of the swaddle as I randomly find Bitty napping in her cradle swaddled like a pro.

I remember when I first brought Ashlynn home, I loved using my SwaddleDesigns flannel swaddle blanket because it had a tag with picture instructions on it.  I got the hang of it quickly, but it was nice for the husband or any out of practice grandparents to see the quick refresher of turning turn the top corner and pulling up the bottom second, not last, to keep things tight.

When I was recently contacted by SwaddleDesigns, I was excited to learn that they are now offering muslin swaddle blankets sold in singles.  Having had a SwaddleDesigns flannel swaddle and fleece sleepsack, a muslin blanket from the brand was the only thing I wish I could have added at the time.  I ended up using my muslin blankets with both girls all the time because of how breathable and soft they were.  It's always one my go-to gifts for baby showers.  However, a pack of swaddle blankets can be fairly pricy.  I love the idea of being able to buy one separately to add in with some other items. Plus, SwaddleDesigns products are known for their great quality and long lasting value that moms and babies love and enjoy for years. SwaddleDesigns muslin swaddles are made from high quality cotton and will get softer with every wash. They feature prints and patterns that are perfect for the modern parent.

SwaddleDesigns is known for their premium quality fabric, fabulous colors and prints, and their innovative 123 Swaddle® pictorial instructional label sewn to the edge of their Swaddling blankets that makes learning how to swaddle so easy. They now even have a QR code attached for the SwaddleClub which features a free white noise app.

If you'd like to enter to win a Muslin Swaddle Blanket for yourself or as a gift, please enter the giveaway below!

***SwaddleDesigns sent me the featured swaddle blankets for my review.  All opinions expressed are solely my own and SwaddleDesigns is a brand I support, have purchased, and will continue to purchase in the future.***

Pillow Fight

Well, we did it, Kenley is officially in a big girl bed!  She did great going to sleep last night, better than her sister, and only called me in twice during the night.  Once for a lost a bink and went back to sleep, and the second time because I think she was a little confused where she was, so I just climbed in with her since it's a full and I don't need to bring her to our room now.

We ran to Target this morning to pick up two bed pillows since she only had the toddler size crib pillow, and the Pillowfort Collection was completely picked over.  I don't know if my Target only got a little in, but the selection was slim.  Which is a good thing since I'm pretty sure the Husband would have cut my card if I came home with more stuff, but these sheets were hard to pass over.

I still might need to figure out a way to add this unicorn, especially for the price!

Ashlynn was dying to sleep over in her bed, but we want Kenley to have some time to adjust.  We promised them a sleepover this weekend if all goes well.  I can't believe my babies are out of cribs, I look forward to all the changes as they grow, but big milestones like this always stop me and make me realize how quickly time is flying.

From The Camera Roll

Things from lately...

I had previously mentioned I got the itch to start sewing again.  The sunroom is a disaster and I'd love to start organizing it, again, but I started looking my giant stash of fabric and thought it's high time I learn to do a button hole and insert a zipper, and other things that intimidate me.   I started with this free pattern and tutorial from It's Always Autumn, probably because it was already in a 4T and I had everything it needed - fabric, thread, elastic, bias tape, and pom trim.

Aside from a bunch of seam ripping when trying to properly attach the sleeves, the tutorial calls for single fold bias tape and I only had double so I had to try to figure out the right way to fold to get it all right.  I've already started on another for Kenley and hope to try to get started on another pattern soon, I have a bunch pinned so it'll be a case of eennie, meanie, minee, moe.

Ashlynn had her Valentine's Swap at school on Friday and since printer is out of ink, she got to pass out some really awesome handmade valentines.  Hopefully the kids didn't care too much, Kenley has been sleeping with the unicorns she swiped.

Kenley's big girl mattress is scheduled to arrive this week, so I stopped waffling over a thousand colors and just bought a can and got to work.  I grabbed Americana Decor Chalk Paint in Primitive (similar to Annie Sloan French Linen) and just took the plunge.  I had tested Martha Stewart Vintage Decor Paint in Seashell and CraftSmart Deep Peach previous after nixing a contrasting deep purple. I thought the soft colors would fit the room better and compete less with the bedding, but I was afraid they would get lost in the wall color or be too matchy with the bedding.

I mixed a few swatches to see what colors I could achieve by lightening the paint, but you can see, once next to the wall, they would have just blended in.

I had sanded and primed the footboard before deciding on using chalk paint, while it was a waste of time, no harm and the chalk paint had really easy coverage over the cherry frame.

I'm still a bit unsure if this fades into the wall too much too, (disclaimer the lighting is awful in this photo), but if I do decide I want something else, we have another exact same bed frame.  We scored TWO off craigslist for about $65, so this frame can easily go in the guest room.  I think it'll be easier to see what direction to go in one the bed is in the room and other decor changed around. However, I am now obsessed with chalk paint.  So easy and once it's waxed it just looks so velvety.

So I've been domesticating it up over here with my sewing, painting, and baking.  Next up, planning Ashlynn's birthday!

Bullseye!

Has anyone seen the ads for the new Pillowfort collection at Target? It's being released on February 21st, and it has Land Of Nod with affordable prices (and free shipping costs!) written all over it.

I think red store really hit the bullseye with this collection (har har).   Mini cafe chairs, teepees and canopies, and plush animal head busts.  They definitely are heading in the right direction!

This weekend Target is having up to 25% off home items, and you can get an extra 10% at checkout with code HOME, which includes the current Nate Berkus collection, too!

Stream of Consciousness

(yesterday morning's snowfall)

I guess this could also be called a confessions post, but not everything is really a guilty pleasure, thought, or secret.  I find doing mundane things very stress relieving, whether it's folding laundry, painting walls, sewing, building, or crafting, if my hands are staying busy and there isn't a lot to focus my mind on, it will really wander all over.  I generally find myself thinking about celebrity news, probably because I read too much of it.

Since I've been doing a lot of tasks mentioned above, I thought I'd share a peek into my oh so fabulous inquisitive and intellectual mind.

>  I wish this wasn't the case, but like every other 20-30 something mom out there, I'm kind of obsessed with Justin Bieber's new album.  Not to be mistaken with being obsessed with Bieber. I seriously love every single song and sing and dance to each much to the husband's chagrin.

>  Did you know Love Yourself was actually written by Ed Sheeran and he's playing the guitar on the track.  Makes so much sense doesn't it, it totally has the Ed Sheeran sound.  And Halsey's cover, is perfection.

> Halsey got her stage name because it's an anagram of her name Ashley.

> Do the radio stations purposely play the Bieber and Selena songs back to back to be like Pop's very own soap (literal) opera.

> Speaking of Selena, generally never though her singing was anything amazing.  Like she's a Britney and Demi is the Christina.  Cute, already famous, and sellable, but doesn't really hold a ton talent.  However, she finally got me with Hands to Myself.  Not only is the video super enjoyable to watch (ha), she actually sounds pretty good and the beat is fun.  If I were still in college, it would totally be on a pre-game getting ready playlist with my roommates before a night out.  Now I just sing it to my clueless toddlers who probably think it's about sharing toys and not hitting.

 > I've totally fall off instagram.  Around the holidays I stopped checking in as much and now I barely do once a day.  I've never been big on the book, and I've recently gotten back into Pinterest big time.  It's funny how things ebb and flow.  I've been "making" a lot recently and it's been giving me a lot of inspiration... such as

>  I've finally decided I'm going to chalk paint Kenley's bed, I'm trying to figure out the perfect shade and practice the technique.  The girls have an rocking chair that was giving to my mother in law from a friend.  I've been meaning to paint it for years now, and am testing on brushes and colors on that before going with the bed.

> K's mattress is scheduled to arrive sometime next week.  I wish she was potty trained already.  I really should just go for it and do it, but diapers can be so much easier especially considering our schedule isn't dictating by her bladder, like Ashlynn's was when she trained.  I was really pissed off buying another box of diapers today at target.  It's got nearly 200 so I'm going to hope its the box and we can have her trained by the time run out.  Goals.

> I was searching for something in our sunroom (craftroom) a few days back and re-realized how out of control my fabric stash is.  I wanted to order some fabric to make something for Ashlynn's birthday party, so I'm going to practice with making other tops and dresses before it arrives.  I have so much I might as well pick a few projects and get back into it.

> My house is a disaster. Even when I completely clean and straighten up a room, it's chaos a few hours later.  I blame winter and being stuck indoors for toys floating all over the house, finding Ashlynn's clothes randomly in different rooms (because she insists on changing into the same pink sweatpants everyday immediately arriving home from whereever we have gone that I refused to let her wear them).  I'm so itching to spring clean and purge.

Okay, off to pick up the mess I'm staring at.

What are some of the random thoughts in your head lately??

Twirly Girly

Kenley has entered the phase where she wants some input on what she gets to wear each day.  It mostly consists of her pointing at her clothes and saying "twirl! twirl! dress!" over and over until I put back what I selected and grab a dress suitable for twirling.  Since she mostly has hand-me-downs, I recently added some new dresses to her collection since the old ones were looking a bit worse for wear or getting too small.

There are still a few more I'd like to add to the collection, because, when you got two girls who are almost the same size - go big or go home, right?

Whimsical Little Girls Room

Thank you all for the input over the direction of Kenley's little girl room.  I had ended up ordering the Target bedding shortly after posting because I just couldn't pass on the price.  It has arrived and while I get why it was so affordable (it's 100% polyester) I think it will work well for her and any possible accidents, spills, or sickies.  If it doesn't have the greatest life span or gets stained, no big deal.

The heart sheets I had paired with the comforter set are out of stock in a full, so I grabbed a plain purple set at Target to give it some pop.  The comforter is busy enough that it really doesn't need loud or competing sheets.

Majority of the items above are already part of her room - the dresser, bins, pom curtains, side table, and ottoman.  To keep the room playful, I think adding the unicorns will be right up her alley.   I love both busts, bold gold and paper mache.  And swapping some art around for new prints.

The biggest decision is white color to paint the cherry bed frame we have.  It was a craigslist find and is a classic wooden spindle bed.  Definitely can't go wrong with white, but I would love to have a fun color.  I love the dark elderberry or plum color to add contrast against the bedding and light mauve walls. Hopefully we'll get a chance to get started on stripping the head and foot boards this weekend!

Weekend

Hello February!  It's crazy how quickly time is flying, although last week did seem to drag out probably because the husband was traveling for work.  A full week in San Diego, receiving beach front views via text while I go stir crazy with two little people and two little dogs.  However I, too, received a 'daddy's home' gift, so I can't really complain.

I was able to get out for a few hours on Saturday morning to enjoy some errands solo.  A chance I spent 90 minutes strolling Target with latte in hand.  I picked up some gifts for a birthday party and then jumped over to Lowe's to grab some wood to complete I project I've been meaning to do for about a year now.

I purchased the bunny art as a digital download and it's what basically inspired Ashlynn's orchid bunny room. I finally had it printed as a 18x24 poster, simply attached it to some craft boards and hung on the bare black wall next to Ashlynn's bed.  I was hesitant to hang anything with weight or glass since the girls do climb into the bed and there is the occasionally wrestling or jumping session.  While this is hanging by a push pin, the bottom dowels are attached by a command strip to keep it from rocking or pulling away from the way.

I also snuck in a stop at my local "Magnolia Market".  This store, The Nest, just moved locations and while no Chip and Joanna or giant Silo to shop, it's quaint and filled with goodness you'd see on Fixer Upper.

Yesterday, Ashlynn attended a friend's Princess Party.  Princess Aurora and Maleficent made appearances and while she was a bit apprehensive of Maleficent she was definitely star struck by Sleeping Beauty.  I had her sit next to her during story time since she didn't want to gather around Maleficent.  She pretty much just (creepily) stared at Aurora in awe, definitely only acceptable when we you are three.

After, we discussed some options for Ashlynn's birthday and finally came up with a great idea for her party.   I might be just as excited as she is, I'll definitely share soon!
