Five

Just a little Five Things "Currently" style...

Watching

I just finished binging on the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.  Any 30 Rock, or just general Tina Fey, fans will love this show. It totally fills the comedic void 30 Rock left behind.  Ellie Kemper is perfect as the bubbly fish out of water and Jane Krakowski basically is still playing Jenna Maroney.  The quotable jokes are right on point totally recommend the Netflix binge.

Reading

A few months back I went a 'coffee table book' spree and stocked up on a bunch of books I wanted to read, but also wanted to keep.  As in, not download on to my kindle.  Through some Camel Camel Camel price watching and resale buying, I have quite the stack on my nightstand.  I most recently finished The Perfectly Imperfect Home.  It's written by the founding editor of Domino Magazine and has some really great styling tips, a lot of which I realized I see all the time on some of my favorite design sites, but never realized them as a 'rule'.  The book also has the greatest watercolor interior illustrations and also a lot of history and education on interior design.  The Nesting Place is next on my list.

Moving

My rear.  I'm using the YouTube app on our Roku to watch Tone It Up videos. I'm actually doing them too, not just watching.  Of course, Kenley is usually sitting on me and Ashlynn is trying to keep up, but Malibooty or bust.

Painting

Ashlynn's room.  I picked up the paint today, Classic Gray by Benjamin Moore, and plan on clearing out as much as I can from the guest room tomorrow.  We will have this room painted this weekend, March Madness be damned!

Debating

We just got a quote for our kitchen reno, and while we aren't surprised, we aren't sure if we want to dive into another large renovation so soon after doing the bathroom.  The kitchen is a major eyesore, but it does function without any issue.  The husband just wants to go ahead, but I'm thinking we spend less and try to make some moves on the living and dining rooms.  We want to finish laying hardwoods in there and, hello, we still don't have a dining table.  I'd love to get this one, it's extremely affordable for an extendable farmhouse style dining table, and even if the quality is lower - though it has good reviews - I know the little ones will put it through hell so I'm not really looking to invest in a nice piece right now any way.  Chalk that one up to lessons learned.  We ordered a couch for the living back in January and it's scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, so I'd love to keep with the momentum and have those two spaces finished so to speak since that'd be a bit easier to swallow financially than the kitchen renovation.  Plus, we could take our time so it wouldn't be a giant hit all at once.

Happy weekend, friends!

  1. Happy Weekend! Debating how much to spend on home improvements and decorating can be so tough! Thankfully the house we bought had a recently renovated kitchen. But of course that then makes me think, oh we could update the bathrooms, but really they don't NEED to be done. It's always say it's easier to spend money ;)

  2. I started watching kimmy yesterday and have one episode left and I'm so sad! It's seriously so good and lighthearted and binge watching bites me on the butt because i get so sad when the show ends! And that table looks so so so much like our PB table (which has made it through a LOT so far!).!

  3. I am going to add Kimmy to my DVR! I saw the commercial and I have been wanting to check it out. I am glad to hear it is funny. I love that dining table and thanks for the inspiration to also move my rear, lol! Have a fabulous weekend!

  4. I can't speak to that particular table, but our table/chairs are from World Market and I LOVE them. They've survived two military moves and have held up great. The table is really solid/sturdy. We have a few other pieces from there too (a coffee table and a dresser) and I love them as well.

  6. My husband loved 30 Rock, and when I started TUKS he was like what is this? I told him it was Tina Fey's netflix show and he half paid attention, and a few episodes in said it was really funny and actually good. Um, yeah dude, that's what I just told you!...

  8. Now that we have streaming, I have so many shows to get through... not that I couldn't watch half of them before ondemand, but I just never did. For some reason so much easier through hulu.

  9. I think my hang up is, even if we go with the kitchen plans now, it's still not "finished". We still would like to replace the cabinets someday and knock down the soffit, put in better lighting, etc. So I almost would rather DIY a few fixes to make it look a little nicer, and just wait a few years until we can save enough to do a total reno.

  10. I'm interested in hearing more about the design tips you learned in that book! I'm really so bad at decorating. I never seem to gravitatie toward spending time on it. Working out at home takes some serious motivation, especially with little ones around!

  11. Why is table shopping so difficult? Especially when you have a small budget???? When we first moved it we inherited my grandparents table and it was a nightmare. You barely touched it and the glasses went sloshing all over, it was a drop leaf with extension abilities but the apron on the table was so low that everyone slammed their knees into when sitting down. I was bound a determined to find something that was substantial and able to seat at least 10 - 12 people. But that was way out of my budget. After years of looking it was hopeless. When my mom passed away I begged my dad for their vintage dining set and never in my life would I have been able to afford the size or quality of the table. I love that Ellie gets to grow up eating at the table I grew up eating at. But man are they hard to find!!!

  12. Trying to get into 'Kimmy', we've only watching a few episodes, but it's picking up/getting better.. right? :) Teach us something from your decorating books, :) I know what looks good and what I like, but have such a hard time occasionally implementing in real life, or is that what a budget does to ya?! Haha :) Ohh, love that table!!

  13. I'm so loving Ellie's new show too! The plot line initially had me pretty skeptical, but she can totally pull it off!

  14. Yeah, I read about it about a month before it came out and thought it sounded ridiculous, then watched the trailer and thought I'd give it a shot when it came out. I just think the dialogue and jokes scream Tina, who can do no wrong for me.

  15. It definitely has some overly silly parts, but I think the role is perfect for Ellie and I just love all the classic Tina Fey style one liners... I can see though it might not be for everyone, but it was a quick and easy watch

I've heard nothing but good things about that show! My sister works at Netflix, that's one of her shows, so I better watch it!

  17. We just painted *almost* the entire first floor of our new home in Classic Gray. So far, I'm loving it. Works well in all light!

Also - thanks for the new coffee book recommendation :) I'm a sucker for coffee table books! http://winkthinks.com/2013/08/coffee-table-books/
