Life Lately

Lots of random thoughts today...

- First up, cable.  We've been talking about ditching cable since last February when our bill went up $25 for no reason other than, it was a new year.  I actually got the Husband Apple TV for Christmas.  He had been waffling over what streaming device to get, and that is why we never made the switch.  He did some research, and the Apple TV model is like two or years old and apparently there will be a new release later this year - I have no idea if that's rumors or fact, so don't take it from me.  Since we already have Netflix and Amazon Prime, we returned the Apple TV and got a Roku 3.  We hooked it up two weeks ago and we're forced to start using it this past weekend when we killed the power to the house to install the light fixture in the bathroom.  When we turned the power back on, our DVR cable box went on the fritz and started blinking like a strobe light.  We called Comcast Sunday morning and since they were unable to help they scheduled an appointment for Wednesday.

Yes, thankfully we were able to watch the Super Bowl on a different TV, but we cancelled the appointment and are ready to return the box and start our Hulu subscription.  Pretty excited to start saving some money (especially since our bill went up another $25 this month), but also pretty sad to be losing my access to E! News and Red Carpet. Womp Womp.

- I talked about the bathroom light.  Yes!  Our bathroom is finally done.  The glass doors were installed last week and our backordered light arrived the next day.  All we need is a shade/blinds for the window and we'll be set.  Pictures to come!

- Continuing project completion, my closet is finally put together and organized.  I still want to create a jewelry display, some hooks for scarves and bags, and a basket to corral the things I grab on the regular like pjs and sweats.  Again, pictures to come!

- I'm not sure why it's taken me so long, but I finally bought an electric broom. I really wanted a cordless one and thought that's what I ordered, but it's not.  Although, for the $18 I paid for it, I don't care.  It's already paid for itself since I pretty much use it after every meal, especially Kenley has been obsessed with graham crackers.  I mean, we have dogs, and they usually grab food that falls (or is thrown), but there are still so many crumbs I can feel I'm walking on and inevitably end up on the floor wiping them up.  So much easier.

- In the midst of a little makeover for my little women.... more to come on that, too.

- And ending on a sweet note.  I usually have ice cream every night, and lately it's been Ben & Jerry's FroYo Half Baked.  The Husband likes Klondike bars, and while, I'd still eat one, definitely not my first choice.  However, if you haven't had the Caramel Pretzel, run.  Still more calories than my froyo, but so good!

  2. We ditched cable two years ago and although I miss a few of my shows it has been the best decision! Certain luxuries had to go by the way side when I decided to stay home, but I'd rather be home with my baby any day of the week :) I'm excited to see more pics of your closet and bathroom! They are looking great!

  3. exactly... it's just getting out of hand how expensive it is. And really it's not like we are watching multiple tvs at the same time or watch even more than just a handful of the 900 whatever channels. I'd rather put Ashlynn into a dance or gymnastic class then throw the money at comcast.

  4. I'm trying to talk my husband into ditching our cable too, we basically just binge watch Netflix on Friday nights anyway!
& LOVE that little chair- can't wait to see more :)

  5. I love Ben & Jerrys - I just polished off a Half Baked pint myself. I'll have to try the froyo one! :) We don't have cable either, and while I'd love to be able to watch HGTV, it's not worth the $80+ a month. Most of the shows we watch are online, so it works out really well with Hulu and Netflix. Love your bathroom too!

  7. God I love your bathroom. And we just bought a dust buster and I think it's the greatest invention ever. Actually, Santa brought it for Mac and HE now cleans. Kudos Santa.

  10. I love how timely your posts are for what I'm dealing with! I was talking to Comcast just yesterday trying to figure out how to bring our huge bill down. Did you have any trouble getting out of your contract? I've seen a lot of horror stories about that. Hubs loves sports and that is the big reason we haven't left yet.

  11. We've never has cable, always just Netflix and local channels with the bunny ear antennae. Works for us!

I can't wait to see more of your bathroom and closet! And those classic books- they're gorgeous!!

  12. E! for me and sports for him. We got an antenna last year to put on our basement tv to see how sports came in, since we really dont watch stuff down there/need a cable box. It works alright for the basic network channels. Probably going to get another of those for the other rooms and then eventually a second roku. Our bill was seriously insane... like they just raised it to $170... seriously. wtf. check out roku vs apple and the sports channels they offer. I think the only big things we'll miss is NFL and Golf... which will just watch with the antenna.

  13. Idk if I could get rid of cable - the walking dead!!!

Omg I cannot wait for more pictures on your bathroom and closet! As well as sources.

Those classic books: that paper on the chair - I think I need it in my life!

Oh and I have had that same broom in my bathroom for years. I love it!

  15. We have Apple tv in our room, and a smart tv downstairs and we love it! So many options, especially if you like binge watching tv shows. We ave Direct tv (satellite) downstairs and upstairs though, but I use the Apple tv way more. I love HGTV too much to get rid of regular television!

  16. Our cable jumped up significantly, too. I'm ready to switch!!! Your bathroom looks great! We're getting ready to start our redo. I have a feeling it will take forever!

  17. We've been talking about ditching cable for months too, but there's one problem... the husband can't watch baseball if we don't have cable. Whomp whomp. And apparently sports always wins out! LOL

  18. That was our hang up too, but there are few sports apps you can add... ESPN, MLB, CBSsports, etc. Some show live events, others just clips like you'd get on the internet. But we also will use our antenna for some too.... annnndd we still do have cable at the moment, but at least we're down to a box
