Dressing for my Thirties

With my closet makeover in process, I'm in major purge mode cleaning out my closet and dresser.  We got all the shelving and now are just waiting for the snow storm to clear so I can grab some bars at Lowe's and finally hang everything back up.  I cleaned out a good amount last summer and even made a donation around the holidays, but alas, I have a good bag and a half filled and am not even done yet.

I got rid of a handful of semi formal and cocktail dresses back in the summer, but after another look I've decided to purge more.  At 32 years old wife and mom of two, I feel my style has changed.  I'm more aware of dressing appropriate, which doesn't mean frumpy or dowdy.  Just a bit more reserved compared to the college formal days that some of my old dresses hail from, know what I mean? (yikes!)

Not that I'm currently purchasing new dresses to replace the old, I'm still having some fun finding some new styles that fit my slightly bit more conservative style that are still stylish, and maybe a bit of sexy too.

I love these maxi dresses for a Spring or Summer wedding, especially the floral one in the middle.  the halter silhouette is super flattering - more so then my old friend strapless - and the best part, it's comfortable.  Putting an end to tight and uncomfortable dresses!

And if I was still in the working world and needed to dress business casual, I would definitely embrace the shift dress.  I love these patterns and styles, they remind me of Lilly - but for less!

  2. I hear ya, I think that's why I'm so gung ho now! I donated most of my maternity stuff over the holidays and now am just trying to get rid of anything else spit stained or just "pre-baby" style that I'll never wear again (like as in trendy styles from 2011 and prior)

  3. I love this. Because it's SO TRUE. Those college dresses just don't cut it anymore now that we're (GASP) 30. I love all of these! So cute!

  4. I feel like I'm constantly purging out my closet. I never spend much on my clothes so it's never too hard to come to the realization of "I never wear this" and out it goes. I'd imagine I'll do another huge purge come nesting season :p

  5. I love all the dresses you chose here, especially the maxi dresses. I'm with you about my style having changed, it is different now being a Mom. I like my style better now than from what I used to wear years ago!

I'd love to do a closet purge too, probably after I have my baby and see what fits again.

  6. Oh heck yes! Gone are the skin tight, bare midriffs and low necklines. Those days were fun but I'm so much more comfortable in my skin now that I don't need to bare it all for attention!! I'm all about being conservative - longer loose flowing tops, tank tops underneath and tucked in to prevent showing the whale tail, and keeping the tahtahs confined!! Love this.

  7. I just did this.. probably need to do so again, but I love how freeing it is to get rid of old clothes. I should probably work on my husbands side of the closet too ;)

  8. I got two garbage bags full last weekend. My easiest criteria - if I have to wear a real strapless bra with it, it goes.

  11. Girl, I'll rock a soft bandeau bra any day. I just can't wear anything low cut enough for that hard strapless bra. I'm an A cup at best so there's just no need for that, lol!

  12. I can't seem to let go of old dresses eventhough I know I won't wear them again-- perhaps because I love them and the memories they hold so much? I love the maxis dresses you showed!

  13. I need to do the same, not sure why it's so hard for me to just get rid of all those old clothes though, definitely need to upgrade some things. I often feel like that's not what a 'mom' would wear, not like 'mom-jeans-kinda-mom', but a 'hip-30-something mom'. Love those shift dresses, if only I had a reason to wear them.. :)
