On my mind...

Just a post of some of the random things that have been on my mind, happenings, or confessions.

After losing cable and internet twice in the last 10 days, we are really thinking about canceling Comcast once and for all.  We talked about it back in the spring and even got an antenna for the basement tv, but we are finally going to look back into Roku or Apple TV.  We have Amazon Prime too, which we really should set up. We are just both too lazy to figure it out and are waiting for the other one to break.

I eat ice cream every night.  I seriously don't know how I was able to give up dairy for so long when I did while nursing Ashlynn.  I could probably quit it again, as long as I was allowed ice cream.  And if we are getting specific, even with the twenty fro-yo places nearby (I swear there is one in every shopping center), nothing beats a chocolate reese pieces blizzard from Dairy Queen for me.

Yesterday my best friend came over and we took Ashlynn (and Kenley) out for ice cream.

I still had more ice cream again at night.

I recently started working out again, mainly just running and doing circuits in our driveway.  I need to start getting back to the gym and maybe after we get back from vacation, I'll make that part of our routine.  The problem with working out is I become a serious bottomless pit.  Nothing is safe and my workouts definitely don't negate the calories in. See above regarding ice cream.

Bathtime with Kenley has become my most dreaded... part of the week?  Okay, so she gets more than one a week, but it's definitely not daily.  And it's become a two man job.  Daddy has to hold her while I wash her.  I had been bathing her in the baby tub, placed inside our master tab so I could get in and hold her as she thrashed around.  When she finally started standing a month ago, she'd try to stand and climb out when I'd wash her hair so I finally started giving her baths in the regular tub with very little water.  She basically is in awe of the drain and will reach over to grab it, or the faucet, or just still try to stand.  It's become impossible for me to hold her securely and use another had to wash and rinse her.  Last night, she might as well had a jumperoo in the tub since she stood and kicked the whole time.  I'm looking into buying one of these, but I'm afraid she'll just try to climb out.

Bathtime is anything but calming and soothing.  Any one else have or had a wiggler on their hands?  Advice?!

Back in May, an opportunity came up for the Husband at work that would have brought us to Houston, TX.  A very long story short, after months of delay, we finally put it to bed in July and will be staying put here in Pennsylvania.  It definitely wasn't a place a ever imagined moving, but I was up for the adventure, and may still be getting alerts from Trulia that I need to cancel.  However, we had put so many things on hold "just in case".  We are finally back in the mindset of putting time and energy (and money) into some home improvements around here.  We haven't touched our Master Bedroom since we moved in, so I'm dying for it to be painted.  Hopefully professionally, because I'd be okay never cutting in again and it's a pretty big room that needs a good coat of primer too.   I'm also itching to really "finish" the playroom so it's not just a bunch of haphazard toys organized around the wall, but a stylish and functional space for the girls to grow into.  Craft station and artwork display, dress up bin, and yes, more storage and organization!

Don't be surprised if more home decor mood boards start popping up around here!

In the meantime, you can catch us working on this!

  1. I'm the exact same way with ice cream! I could eat it multiple times a day if I didn't stop myself! I don't think I could ever give up dairy!

  2. I'm not so much for sweets like ice cream, but I have popcorn every single night. And if it isn't popcorn, it's chips. I can't seem to conquer the bad night time snacking. UGH!

  3. When Anabelle was Kenley's age, we just sat her in the bath tub with a few inches of water and let her play while we sat there with her. Are you uncomfortable doing this? Maybe you can get a bath mat in case you're afraid of her sliding around.

Once Anabelle was able to sit up unassisted, we ditched the baby tub. She crawled around all over the place in there, but she loved it.

  4. The laundry basket was a savior for us at bathtime. Reed would nearly flip the little tub and if we let him loose in the big tub he was all over the place. I saw on Pinterest that you just stick a laundry basket in the tub and place them in the basket. For some reason that was the perfect balance for him of being free, but contained. We used the basket for months.

Seriously. What is the deal with Comcast? We have them as well and are constantly disappointed. So happy to hear I'm not the only one who eats Ice cream every night. I seriously feel so guilty about it sometimes but love when I open the freezer to see my husband has surprised me with some Ben and Jerry's. I'll be thinking of you when I indulge tonight after bedtime!

  6. Julia is 4 months & I'm still bathing her in the kitchen sink. It's still pretty easy but she's getting long so I'm going to have to switch soon. I think I like that laundry basket idea ^^. Those make your own froyo places are my new favorite but my husband is diabetic & lactose intolerant. So I mostly just have to drive by them & wave.

Roku is super easy, granted we still have Comcast internet to make it work, but we can access Netflix streaming, Hulu subscription ($8 a month for many of our fave shows; Modern Family, Scandal, etc), and Amazon Prime. I think the Roku was $79 total and fairly easy to install. We rarely watch live TV anymore except the Food Network.

  8. Yumm for the ice cream - I do the same thing - except mine are full on sundaes with bananas, chocolate, sprinkles, the works lol. Oofta on the bath time situation - I am so thankful that the girls take a bath together now and they both just sit there and play. Having a flailing monkey would be a game changer! I could totally see Kenley busting out of that bath seat lol. Hopefully she will cool her jets sooner than later :)

  9. Houston? Cool you would have been near me. ;) We recently started talking about moving out of Houston as in a few days ago when H saw an opening in Palm Beach, Florida. He's now interested in possibly a transfer. While we decided we won't be moving this year, he has been starting to check out homes. I'm all for it. Florida has good schools. Houston is just so hot and humid, there are no mountains or nice beaches and there really isn't much to do.

  10. At least popcorn is fat free!! I'm such a sugar addict. I may eat a handful of chocolate chips after everymeal. Sometimes even before breakfast, it's bad!

  11. Our tub is bit a textured on the bottom so bathmats don't stick great, we tried with Ashlynn before we realized we didn't really need it. I would get in with her, it's usually just the time. I'd probably have to do while Ashlynn naps, because everything is just too rushed at night. No wonder its not calming!

  12. OMG thank you! I definitely seen that all over pinterest too. We will give it a shot, at least worth a try before investing in something else that might not work or only last 2-3months. I just need her to stop trying to stand up. How much water did you put in the tub??

  14. I like the laundry basket idea too! Omg, I'd be running out making sneaky trips for ice cream if that my situation!!

  15. Awesome! My husband read more about both of them so he knows the deal, all I care about is having disney jr for the kids, hubs wants ESPN, and I want network, but we can get that with an antenna. I wouldn't doubt we are cableless by the end of the year. Honestly the only show I'm going to miss is E!News, I watch it every night, I love Guiliana, Jason, Catt, Terrance... maybe it's streamed? haha

  16. I usually buy "contained" ice cream. Like Drumsticks or these little sundae cups my store sells (vanilla with reese pieces and fudge and pb topping) mainly so I can't go crazy with a big bowl from a half gallon. Although the little sundae cups are still like 400+ calories oops.

  17. Trust me, I had a mental list of all the bloggers I know in the Houston area who I was going to reach out to! And girl, Florida is just as humid!! Maybe worse bc it rains more... I think FL would be the last place I'd want to go, haha. It's funny, how the grass is greener, I was really looking forward to more in houston (especially from sept-apr since our winters blow) and the schools were so good! We weren't going to be in the city, but probably in the Woodlands. I loved how convenient everything seemed, not to mention we could have gotten a pretty sick house!! Oh well, back to the drawing board with the one we already got!

  18. Haha. That's funny. Now that I think about it I have always seen Miami as being really humid too so I'm sure the same with the surrounding areas. A house by the beach sure would be nice though. That is the nice thing about Houston though. The COL is a lot less than the east or west coast and you can get a huge house for not that much money.

  19. I was looking for a picture for you - here's one if you scroll down on this blog post. I want to say it's maybe 4 inches. Just the regular amount you'd fill it up with anyway. I honestly don't know why it stopped him from trying to stand up or crawl away, but it did. I think it kept the toys near him so he wasn't always diving for something. Definitely give it a shot. http://alwayspaintedusuallychipped.blogspot.com/2013/07/36-weeks.html

  20. I love that you followed talking all about your love for ice cream with sharing that you've started working out again! haha I'm the same way though, I could never give up ice cream. Keith and I have always fantasized about moving to Texas, and I have no idea why that started. I think the allure is the big houses for way under 2 million (like they would cost here) and all the BBQ! ;)

  21. Ice cream in the summer is amazing. Do you guys have CUSTARD there, though? Not sure if that is a Wisconsin thing but holy cow, it's insanity. I love anything with Reeses PB cup, too.
