[5 and 5] Friday Five

Linking up this with the lovely ladies behind: The Good LifeA. Liz AdventuresCarolina Charm. & Hello! Happiness.
Have you taken the Huggies Challenge, yet?

I actually let Ashlynn take one of the online challenges (the bubble popping, she already took the physical one!) last week when I had an eye doctor appointment. Not only did it keep her occupied while I read every letter wrong on the wall, but she helped diaper other babies in need!

Want to learn more about helping babies in need? Check out my post here!

Birthday planning.  I need to get the invites together and ordered in the next week or so.  This is definitely one thing, of many, that I'll be outsourcing this year.

Right now, this is my top contender...

It's weeks like these that make me miss the Weekly Updates I did with Ashlynn.  Kenley had two big milestones, and it'll be such old news by the time I do her Monthly Update on the 30th.

On Monday she started giggling.  It's more of a little "huuh" laugh, but it's an adorable start.  She was doing it a little over the weekend when I'd tickle her, but by Monday she did it completely unprovoked just laughing at me being goofy.

On Wednesday, she rolled!  Belly to back.  I checked Ashlynn's baby book and she hadn't rolled (back to belly was her first) until 19 weeks.  Of course she was also born a month earlier, but she had nearly caught up to where Kenley is now weight-wise at 13 weeks.  Ashlynn also was in cloth diapers, which I think made it a bit tougher for her to flip, who knows.  We'll see if lightning will strike twice and if this becomes a 'thing' for K Babe.

She's also been sleeping like a champ, unswaddled.  She wakes around 2am and 5:30am to nurse, but I think it's really time to move her to her room.  I'm totally keeping her in our room just for the ease it gives me of not having to get up and walk down the hall.

Post partum Notes:  Hair loss has started, oh the joy.  Not sure what's worse, losing all the hair or the horns that sprout when it starts to grow back.  Looks like I'll need to stock up on drain cleaner and hairspray.  In that order.

Also, let's talk about some post baby differences.  I've been lucky enough to have some great genetics to help me return to my pre-baby weight fairly quickly after both pregnancies.  I actually haven't weighed myself since my 6 week check up, but I know my pre-pregnancy jeans are fitting.  However, the second time stretch (not sure if that's a thing, but that's what I'm dubbing it!) is killing me!

Okay, maybe not killing, but this is definitely another post partum experience I wasn't warned about!  Any second or third (+) moms experience only what I can compare to lose skin in the belly area?  I mean, sure, I did drop back to my pre-pregnancy weight fairly quickly so I can understand it, but I don't remember this at all from last time.  Is it because I'm in my (early!) 30s and don't have as much skin elasticity or is just normal from my belly being stretched twice now so closely together?  Looks like some exercise is my future, now only if the snow would melt so I could be motivated enough to do it!

I should probably also lay off the Oreos.

hashtag addicted.
Finally, a week ago, I was contacted by Heather, a 8 year survivor of mesothelioma.  Mesothelioma is a rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure.  Heather had been diagnosed after she had given birth to her daughter and was told she would have 15 months to live.  After undergoing a risky surgery, which required the removal of her left lung, she beat the odds and has since created LungLeavin' Day as a way to commemorate the day that changed her life.

LungLeavin’ Day is held every year on February 2 and it is used to encourage others to face their fears! Each year, Heather gathers around a fire in her backyard with her friends and family.  The each write their biggest fears on a plate and smash them into the fire.  They celebrate for those who are no longer with us, for those who continue to fight, for those who are currently going through a tough time in their life, and most importantly, they celebrate life!
This year, she's asked bloggers to participate and spread the word about LungLeavin’ Day. There is a gorgeous interactive page that tells the full story of the special day.
Although the day has passed, I still wanted to share the information as it's a story important for all to hear.

  1. My pre- preg jeans still don't fit and it's been TWO YEARS. And sweet kenley rolling and giggling?! I still see her as a newborn... It's killing me she's getting so big!!!

  2. I have to catch myself not referring to her as a newborn anymore, like when we had my eye doctor appointment and couldnt cancel bc I didn't have a sitter for A, I asked if they'd mine if I brought my toddler and newborn, then realized she's not one! And you must have been a waif pre-pregnancy because you are teeny! I actually was smaller post preg with A than pre-preg because of going dairy and soy free while nursing her first year. That'll never happen again... cutting dairy or getting that small!

  3. That birthday invite is so sweet! I definitely had the saggy skin with my second. I don't know if it is because your belly has already been stretched out but my trainer told me to do a lot of planks and wall push ups and I noticed that they definitely helped it!

  4. Awesome! Looks like I'll be joining Kenley at Tummy Time :)

  5. Glad I found your blog via the link-up! Gorgeous children and adorable invite! Go with that one for sure! Also, thanks for sharing Heather's story- Have a great weekend!! xoxo

  6. Hi Jessi! So glad you found me, thank you for the sweet comments!

  7. Can we talk about how I lost all of my pre-baby weight nursing, then stopped nursing but kept eating like I was....and now am up a few pounds? It's the worst!!! But anyway, I can't believe A is going to be 2! Such a big girl!

  8. I've pretty much been pregnant or nursing for 4 years, I have no clue how to eat normally, I'm a slob. Not only do I eat two breakfasts and sometimes two lunchs (and/or toddler scraps) I am crazy addicted to sugar and carbs (muffins from starbucks, with my grande latte - why not?!), sleeves of Oreos in a day, sure. I am going to have a RUDE awakening when I quit nursing :(

I wish I had lost all the weight from baby number one before getting knocked up, I'm soooo scared of what my body is going to be like after! If your tiny babies left you stretched like that, I think I might need cosmetic surgery...

  10. I'm definitely being critical, it's not like biggest loser skin, but definitely different from last time. Like as of now, I'm only wearing a one piece at the beach. Hopefully some planks and running will help me out. Just need these temps to get warmer so the kids don't freeze...

  11. I am so excited about growing a bump I often forget post bump...hmm that is not going to be anywhere near as cute!

  12. thank yo so much for sharing about Heather! what a fantastic idea! I am going to have to pencil that in for next year - Lord knows I have a lot of tough times! And those invites!! adorable!! I am trying to figure out what I want Ellie's to look like.

  13. LOVE the mermaid theme! I cannot wait to see pics from her birthday!

  14. I love the invitation! So bright and beautiful!

I remember the skin thing after I had Owen and I think it all went back to normal after maybe 9 months? I lost it all pretty quickly (nursing, the new mom anxiety diet, lack of time to eat, etc. ) but when all those things went away I gained extra wait, like wtf? Not fair!

  15. Hi! I just saw the invite and was wondering if you would like to get a customized Themed Birthday Party Kit? I make them and have successfully created on some themes for my friends and other clients. Just in case you'd like to have a look, here's the link to a few of them party Kits I have designed... In case you want your own theme, it can be done :)

  16. Ah thank you so much for offering Nidhi! I just placed a order, maybe we can work together in the future!

  17. Ok, the huuh laugh cracks me up. I call Audriana's more of a grunt and it's the cutest thing ever. And seeing that picture of Kenley is proof of how beneficial tummy time is lol - she is WHOOPING Audriana's little booty with that neck strength! I put her on her stomach and she's a complete crab for a good hour after.
And for the loose skin I feel like once I hit the 4 month postpartum mark I started seeing the biggest changes but I also started doing squats and crunches while holding the babe because heaven forbid we have any children that sleep. For now, I will maybe just hide in a moo moo dress at the beach lol.

I love hearing from my readers! Be sure to check back as I try to respond to all comments and questions here in the comment form :)
