[Little Foodie] Toddler Meals Continued...

Yesterday I covered what we eat, now I'll cover how we eat it!

Obviously, Ashlynn still prefers to eat what she can with her hands, but this is to focus on the other gear - plates and utensils that have won us over.

(July 2013)

We still love our Boon Catch bowl... to death.  Literally.  It's time to be replaced.  We only have one and have used it multiple times a day for probably about a year now.  I usually wash it by hand with hot soapy water after each meal and throw it in the dishwasher (top rack) when I run it.  The rubber suction bottom is getting pretty warped from the washing, but it still suctions nicely even though Ashlynn is able to get unstuck when she wants.  At this age, she's really not into flinging it across the room like she was with plates, bowls, and cups last year.

... yes, I Instagram a lot of Ashlynn eating pics

So while I'm actually trying to move away from suction plates and bowls to teach her to not pick them up and keep them on her tray (so she can graduate to real plates), the spillcatcher feature is still a must.  She recently started eating cereal, with milk, for breakfast and without that rubber lip her lap would be soaked from the milk that doesn't make it into her mouth.

We also purchased the Boon Saucer plates in a 3-pack, they are non-slip and edgeless making it difficult for toddlers to pick up and slide around, the problem is they don't fit flat on our Keekaroo high chair's tray. When we move Ashlynn to a booster seat at the table we'll try them again.

Tommee Tippee was kind enough to send us their Section Plates to try out.  They are the perfect size for our narrow high chair tray, and all three sections are an appropriate size for each course.  I've seen some section plates where the sections are very shallow or so small you could fit four peas in.  When paired with their suction Easi-Mat, the plate isn't going to be flipped or tossed.  However, like I already mentioned, I am working on teaching Ashlynn to keep her plate on the table so no safe guards here, just listening skills and lots of "put your plate down please".  Hoping to get a booster seat soon and move her to the table when she has her manners down ::wink wink::

For utensils, we LOVE our Beaba Ergonomic Cutlery.  We received it as a shower gift and have loved it ever since Ashlynn started feeding herself. (Seriously, I think it's made all our feeding favorites posts - 1, 2)  I really can't pinpoint why they work so well for us, but they do!  We also still use our Beaba First Stage Spoons to use with yogurt. The long handles keep Ashlynn's hands from going into the cup and the small spoon size keeps her from scooping up giant globs.

Finally, a constant in every mealtime photo are our Bumkins bibs.  I love how easy they clean up, I rinse them after each meal and hang to dry and wash in the washing machine every few days.   The pocket catches a lot and they fold up so small when traveling I don't need to worry about them taking up space in my purse.

And there you have it, our mealtime favorites!  Any products you swear by, I'd love to hear!!

***Tommee Tippee was kind enough to provide the Explora Section Plates for my review, but all opinions expressed are my own.  All other products mentioned were purchased with my own money and their brands are unaware of this review.  If you'd like to learn more about my sponsorship policies and opportunities, please click here***

  1. Looks like you have plenty of plates, but if you're looking for more we LOVE these Replay plates.

  2. Love those, awesome they are made from recycled milk jugs! I'm always looking for green product, thanks for the recommendation!

  3. Aww man that sucks! I wonder if the material of our tray helps?? Who knows, still love the lip that catches her misses. Life saver/laundry saver!

  4. The Tommee Tippee plates look awesome! When I saw your post yesterday with a picture of them I considered tossing all our plates, and buying those instead. We have so many random Cars, Mickey Mouse, Dino sectioned plates and they don't fit together and it would be so nice to have some that just nested together! I think I'm going to go order some now! Thanks for sharing!

  5. My daughter just turned two and we used to those same bib. Then a mom of four recommended the Baby Bjorn bib. Greatest thing ever! Catches everything and so easy to wash off real quick. The pocket never collapses like these other bibs. Got ours at Target and am told they last forever.
