Sayings

Just a little journal of some the things we say around here.  Maybe you have some quirky sayings and do funny things in your home, or maybe we are just a little nuts.  I've got a handful of odd sayings that have stuck around and thought it'd be fun to document them incase we ever forget once we outgrow them.

"Kickin' Chicken" - probably the strangest.  Started when A was just a little infant with her little infant way of kicking her legs, like all babies do.  You know, the two leg 'kick kick kick', oh so cute.   Her kicks now aren't quite the same, but sometimes she busts out the move when her daddy picks her up overhead.  Little Kickin' Chicken indeed.

"Pants Dance" - This just started as something I would say as I would get A dressed for the day, as in, time for the "pants dance".  Now it's a thing.  She knows what it means and if I ask her to come do the "Pants Dance" she'll come over and sit in my lap to put her pants on.

"Blub Blubs" -  A's words (and now ours) for goldfish.

"Scrub Scrub Scrub" - obviously signifies Tub Time.  I usually ask A after dinner if she wants to go get a bath?  She'll run her belly in a washing motion and I say "scrub scrub scrub" and she heads up to the tub.

"Shoes" - This is her daddy's favorite.  He asks her multiple times a day (it seems) if she can say "shoe" which we she replies "shoo" (i know, not really any different written, but it is an adorable sound).

"Cheese" - Our dogs are trained to hear the cheese drawer in the fridge.  For as long as I can remember, if you open the cheese drawer, they come running hoping we'll drop some shredded cheese or sucker and give them a piece of whatever we went in there for.  It now seems, Ashlynn followed suit.  If I go to make her a grilled cheese for lunch or take out a string cheese for a snack "Cheese?" "Cheese!" Her face lights up and she yells "cheese" over and over excitedly.  It comes out more like "chhh-ease"  (be emphasis on the CH)

Dada and Mama - For the longest time Daddy was just "Da".  When he comes home, he comes through the mudroom and we can hear him opening the door and taking off his shoes before coming in the family room.  Ashlynn's always gone running "Da!"  "Da!", finally she's picked up "Dada".  Likewise, I've gone from "Mom" to "Mama".  Actually this week in general, she's been a HUGE Mama's girl distinctively calling for me and clinging to me.

"Milks" -  I've used this since she was an infant at feeding time. Since we didn't use bottles (past 2-3 months), I didn't really have anything to signify milk like most people say bottles ("baba").  Milks stuck and she asks for it mumbled every morning and usually around the same time in the afternoon between snack and dinner time.

Are we the only strange birds with odd sayings?  Spill it, what silly sayings do you have?

  2. I have a silly song I sing after he's pooped and I have to change his diaper. I'll spare you from the details but it's pretty funny. I find I make up songs for everything.

  3. Fun thing to document. We definitely have some funny/strange ones too, thanks for makin me think about it. shoe And cheese are two of O's favorite words too. And just recently siiiit, and squirt squirt, which of course sounds nothing like it should but he makes the little hand gesture to go with it and its just too cute. This is a fun age for sure.

  6. So cute! You've made me think about all the silly things we say too :) We call bath time "splishy, splashy" and sing that song "Splish, splash I forgot about the bath" but change the words to rub dub just a baby in a tub instead of the actual lyrics. It's so silly, but you're totally right that it's worth documenting and remembering!

  8. I'm a speech therapist so I know better than to repeat and reinforce the words our Bean says incorrectly, but sometimes I just can't help it and they stick. At our house we now refer to hair as "hersh" because that's how Francine says it. "Nigh nigh" for goodnight is too cute too. Just one of many like that. I love the kid-inspired phrases that persevere. My family still calls gloves "glubs" and toes "foosfingers" as in German "foot fingers." Great to document these bc they can so quickly morph or disappear.

  9. We have "sips"..."Would you like sips?"
Our little Maeve (9 mos) likes to sip cold water from a teacup. I don't even remember how it started, but if I say "Sips?" during mealtime, she lights up and starts waving her arms.
Our son (who is 8 now) used to say choco-bah for chocolate milk (which was a very special treat, usually reserved for breakfast out or at his grandparents)...We all called it chocobah for a while.

  11. These are cute, great to remember them - things slip away so easily. Hm I don't think we have any silly sayings, but I tend to sing song everything.

  12. We say "milkies" for when it's time to nurse, and it used to be "nappy nursey time" because we always nursed to sleep for naps and bedtime. We definitely have cheese going on in this house too, except it's more like "chiz." I love blub blubs for goldfish. So cute.

  13. I actually did a similar post to this today! Great minds :) Her two biggest words that she still pronounces funny are blanket(she says, Bainkellett) and spaghetti(She says, skabetti). They are both so cute we find ourselves saying them that way too. It seems like she has always over pronounced words, thrown in extra syllables, or really draws our certain sounds. It's so funny!
