[Girl Moms] On Wednesdays We Wear Pink... hair bows!

Hi there! I'm Vanessa from Sunflower State of Mind and I am so honored to be a part of Erinn's great new series, all about being a girl mom!

First off, I have a confession to make:
I always pictured myself as a boy mom.
I don't know why but I just thought that's the way it would be--trucks, trains, dirt, etc.  So when my husband cut into a cake with pink filling, I was shocked!  But here we are, one very girly year later with our sweet Arden, and I couldn't imagine it any other way.  I am 100% a girl mom and loving every minute of it!

There's definitely more to being a girl mom than just headbands and bows…but let's be honest, that's a big part of it--and it's pretty awesome :)  I don't think a day has passed since Arden was born that she hasn't worn a headband…God knew what he was doing when he gave me a child that would tolerate accessories!

There's just something about a headband or bow that completes the outfit…am I right?!

So today I wanted to share my favorite flower and bow tutorials for all you crafty girl moms...and my go-to Etsy shops for the moms who are less interested in hot glue guns :)

--Tutorials--

During the last month of my pregnancy I turned our kitchen table into a mini-sweatshop and went to town making headbands for our baby on the way.  The great thing about making your own is that it's usually pretty quick and you can whip them up to match a specific outfit.  All you need is some scrap fabric, a little bit of elastic, and a glue gun...and you're ready to start creating!

I used this picture and substituted hot glue for thread (duh)
Also, you can find a pretty good template here.

Since I now have a busy one-year-old, my crafting time seems to be dwindling and I've found that sometimes it's just easier to turn to Etsy for new accessories.  These are my tried and true shops for headbands and bows…

L-O-V-E these bows!  They are so simple and sweet, and the patterns are adorable.
Plus they ship fast and the shop owner, Ashlee, is such a sweetheart!

Bloomies is my go-to for solid colored bows and headbands. If you follow them on Instagram or Facebook you can find out about their sales and stock up!  I've gotten their felt bows and flowers for as little as $1.50 each.  Can't beat that!

This has been my holiday bow destination since Arden was born.  I found the perfect Halloween headband there and went back again for the 4th of July.  They did not disappoint!!!

So there you have it--a little bit of something for every bow-loving girl mom!
Happy crafting and/or shopping! ;)

Thanks again to Erinn for letting me join in on the fun!

  2. Thanks for this, Vanessa! I always love Arden's hair accessories. My baby won't leave a headband on for more than a second but I'm hoping that will change in the future!

  5. Yay headbands!! I swear lex looks naked to me without something in her hair (plus she has crazy bang hair that gets in her eyes so she NEEDS something... That's what I tell my husband). I too am grateful for an accessory loving babe!

  6. love it. My girl is currently on a headband strike. I got her to wear one the other day for a record 15 minutes or so. Then she realized it was there and promptly ripped it off. I used to always have her in cute little headbands!

Quick question... the adorable little mustard colored bow in the first photo: did you make it or buy it?
