My Mommy Moments

Before I get to a rousing episode of My Mommy Moments, I first want to thank all of you who voted for Ashlynn's Little Room on Project Nursery, we won Room of the Month!  We are thrilled with all the support and it excites me to get to work on the New Little Room!

Okay, so now onto some recent Mommy Moments, or what would be better, and less sweetly, described as Mom Brain Moments, Mommy Fails, and nominations for Mother of the Year.

Last week, I posted this picture on Instagram and it quickly became one of my recent favorites.  Her little look, her blue eyes, and of course, adorable outfit consisting of white shorts.... on a toddler.

I switch around every day whether or not I have no coffee, decaf, half caf, or full out regular coffee.  I decided this day - around lunch - that our early wake up and A's nap protest, that I'd perk up with an iced coffee - full caf.  I sat enjoying it from my pint glass with a straw and when she wondered into the kitchen, I placed it on the windowsill and followed her to make sure she wasn't playing in the dog's water bowl.  While in the kitchen, I thought I'd make some egg salad for lunch and I should start boiling the eggs.  A wondered back into the playroom, and I realized I didn't her any toys or clanking. I look over and she's at the window going right for my glass!  I ran in what felt like slo-mo of course with the drawn out "noooooo" and as soon as I got to her, the glass poured coffee all down her shirt and shorts.  I grabbed it quickly and surprisingly a lot was left in the glass and she just stood there holding the cute little paper straw.  I stripped her down, got her clothes sprayed with stain spray and in the wash with oxiclean and sopped up the carpet (thank goodness it wasn't hardwood and glass didn't break!).  At first, I was afraid she had gotten a sip, but I'm pretty sure she was just memorized by the striped straw and was trying to pull it out.

So needless to say, we spent the rest of the afternoon in one of these.

Mommy Moment #2 came Sunday night.  We missed our Saturday swim lesson since we were at a birthday party, so we were planning to make up the session Sunday evening.  Ashlynn's naps were so off from not getting any and the travel the day before so I woke her at 4:30 so we could leave at 4:45 to be at the pool at 5pm.  She woke up happy (win) and I got her dressed in her swim diaper and suit.  I noticed her diaper was dry and knew she hadn't gone in a while, but was hoping she'd make it to the pool (terrible, but true).  We came downstairs and were waiting for dad who was watching something on the couch.  I packed up the swim bag and looked down on the family room carpet and saw a wet streak.  I thought maybe her sippy leaked or the dog peed, and then, oh no... the swim diaper.  As I'm explaining to the Husband, it's absorbent but not waterproof.  I looked over at her anywhere chair... soaked!  I immediately took the cover off and got it in the wash and then looked at the husband before claiming defeat and pushing our make up back to Monday night.  Straight into the bath we went and dinner was had by all.

This was my second diaper fail in the last two months.  She also peed down her skinny jeans and onto the floor one day after I was trying to get her diaper on her as she walked away.  I didn't realize, but when she flipped over, I must have twisted it.  That one thoroughly confused me until I changed her.

And finally Mommy Moment #3 was all me.  On the ride home from Long Island (I'll recap the trip soon!), Ashlynn fell asleep immediately and then when GPS took us through NYC and the Lincoln Tunnel, she immediately woke up.  Crying. Hard. I think the dark and flashing lights freaked her out, so once out, I jumped in the backseat with her and got her to calm down.  I also noticed she pooped. Although, it really smelled, like bad.  She had already gone in the morning and it's pretty unusual for her to go twice.  We were planning on getting off at a rest stop once on the NJ Turnpike, but she seemed so content I figured that would almost make things worse, since getting in and out of the car and dealing with a diaper change are her least favorite things on the planet.  So we went with it.  Figured she didn't seemed bothered, I just had to put up with that smell.....   then I looked down.

It wasn't her.  It was me.  I stepped in dog shit probably as we were getting her in the car (since our party hosts don't have dogs).  OMG.  All over my backseat carpet.  And probably up in the front where I started out.  The Husband had fun cleaning that up when we got home, but let's just say he still owes me from Fourth of July past - so I didn't feel that bad.

So there we go, just a typical day in the life.  Tell me, what are your favorite mommy moments??

  2. I had a week of mommy moments too. It's amazing how immune you be come over time. We had to cut off a onsie, it was that bad! Then she pooped in the jumparoo, it leaked out the side of her diaper and onto the floor where she proceeded to jump around in it and spread it all over her legs and feet. I picked her up a few minutes later not realizing it at first and got it all over my stomach (& in my belly button)!

    1. This brought a smile to my face, sorry! These stories while potentially horrifying at the moment, are always great for bringing laughs in hindsight. And yes, so true about being immune. I'm sure we have even more up our sleeve that I've just chalked up as daily happenings!

  3. Isn't mommyhood fun? And extremely messy? We've had our fair share of swim diaper accidents too... And we take her in a normal diaper and change her there!! Stupid non-leak proof diapers. My fav is the dog poop though-- classic : )

  4. Oh my word, too funny! These all sound like things I would do too. The dog poop is by far the worst though....at least you didn't have to clean it up yourself!

  5. Oh, it's so hard to be perfect, isn't it?! At least you didn't smash her finger in the bathroom door jamb. Yeah, that totally happened to us yesterday. FAIL. =( (We both cried)

    1. They'll only get better V! Although hopefully less messy than those newborn blowouts! Things are bit cleaner, just stinkier and more comical, like trying to wrestle your alligator of child into one!

  7. Oh my goodness, you poor thing! I've definitely done the swim diaper thing too. I pulled a new disposable one on O after lessons one time thinking it would have to do because it was too much work to wrangle him to the floor of the gym locker room to put on a regular diaper (SO lazy and DUMB of me). Well, he fell asleep on the way home and I transferred him to his crib....but learned when he woke up that swim diapers absorb nothing!

Even the part about you making sure she wasn't playing in the dog bowl...story of my life! Sigh. You're a good Mama...we've all been there! You shoulda seen the shit show that was me yesterday at Target...OY.

  9. PS I for sure just realized after this post why B's carseat was soaked BEFORE swim lessons today. Why aren't those darn diapers leak proof?! Stupid!

    1. HAHA, too funny! yeah, they make them so they just hold in #2s... I mean I knew kids pee in pools, but this almost makes it like what's the point, it just absorbs all the pool water....
