Mother's Day Weekend Recap

While this technically wasn't my first Mother's Day, it was the first where I could comprehend a true meaning of what it takes to be a Mother.

Last year, Ashlynn was three and half weeks old.  I was drunk on love for her and also completely exhausted as I don't think I started sleeping more than 3 hours at night until she was about a month old and finally free of jaundice and at a "safer" weight.  I was so proud that she made me a mother, something I always dreamed of.

This year, after a year of watching my baby learn to hold her head, smile, laugh, sit, stand, crawl, and walk... get a fever, get a cold, sprout two teeth, grow more hair, learn to love baths, eat like a champion,  give sloppy kisses, sleep through the night, chase the dogs, lose her mind getting tickled, ride the swings, take some spills, start to talk, and develop the cutest little personality, I've learned what it really means for your heart to take over your whole body and place itself inside someone else.  I've learned to understand what the love my mother has for me really means, and appreciate everything she's done for me - especially the things I may have previously been annoyed with.

My heart grows every morning when I wake up and get to pick up my smiling sweetie from the crib.  And while I guess Mother's Day should have been partly about me, to me it felt all about her.

Mimi came for the weekend, arriving Friday afternoon.  We played until daddy was able to leave work and get home for his birthday.  We put Ashlynn to bed and waited a bit for her to settle herself and then went out on our first date since she was born (seriously), however it was cut short when Mimi called to say she had woken back up and was inconsolable and warm.  She was fine rocking and soothing her, but knew I wanted to know.  Thankfully were near by and came back.  Ashlynn was pretty hot and started getting a little bit of a rash that we thought might just be heat rash.  She snuggled on me watching the ceiling fan in our room until she settled herself and cooled down a bit - which I soaked in since we are no longer nursing, I don't get snuggly cuddles anymore.  She finally went to sleep and we were able to eat the food we brought home.  She did have a rough night, so I'm not sure if it was just the heat or maybe her teeth as she's been showing signs of teething, but I don't see anything cutting yet.

Saturday, we took Mimi out to our favorite brunch ever at White Dog Cafe.  We celebrated last Father's Day and my 30th Birthday there, too.  Their brunch is to die for and the all you can drink mimosas and bloody marys don't hurt either!  We stuffed ourselves silly, including Ashlynn.

I had plans to cook a nice dinner, but we were all so stuffed we just ate some light leftovers and relaxed the rest of the evening.

Sunday morning we all had my favorite breakfast dish, Baked French Toast!  Mimi left shortly after Ashlynn went down for her nap and the Husband and I just relaxed a bit.  We hit the store when she woke to pick up some things for dinner, and had turkey BLTs for lunch.  Ashlynn and I took solid afternoon naps while the Husband did some serious yard work (cutting down the overgrown trees in our flower beds) and we had horseradish crusted salmon for dinner.  As you can tell, Mother's Day was all about rest, relaxation, and eating!  I loved being able to spend time with my family and having a low key day feeling very loved.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
