[Wednesday's Weekly Check-In] Week 23

Officially 16lbs and 24" (weighed and measured on Friday)

GI Appointment went well.  Even though I started to see some blood again in the diapers, the doctor believes it's caused from an external source and not the intestinal tract.  I'm to stay on my dairy and soy free diet and we'll do a challenge at 1 year.

We have made some MAJOR strides.

After another few rough nights, I re-read the 5month chapter in the Sleep Lady's Good Night, Sleep Tight on Saturday and vowed to try again on Sunday.  It's like she knew.  Saturday night wasn't bad and we had decent naps on Sunday.  Sunday night I vowed to only feed her once between going to bed at 7pm and her "allowed" wake up of 6am.  A few wakes I just had to pop in her paci and she was good.

Monday we started naps in the crib.  And while they aren't very long and we need to work on consolidating, she doesn't put up a fight and puts herself to sleep on her own - which is huge!  So after lots of a good naps, she fell right asleep at 6:45pm.  She stayed down until 2am when she woke to eat and was back asleep by 2:30 and didn't wake until 6:45am!  Even though she didn't cry, she just was hanging out happy in the crib!  Tuesday was about the same, and Tuesday night she woke at 12, back down and was up at 5.  I gave her the paci and her blankie and let her fuss a bit until 6am when I came in to get her up for the day.

Of course I'm not completely sleeping through the night, since I'm still used to waking every 90minutes or so.  But it's been glorious!  I think she was really ready to get back on track and that's what made the transition easy.

3-6 (for the most part)

Once again we've been fairly tied to home with trying so hard to work out the nap schedule.  However on Tuesday, we headed into my office to officially sign my severance papers and go to lunch with a co-worker.

I'm officially a "Stay at Home Mom".  (I mean, I've been home since she was born, but due to my office closing and our lay off packages, I was technically still "employed")

We've been taking lots of neighborhood walks since the weather has been so gorgeous.

And I already mentioned my "news" of being a full time mommy!

Get ready....

She finally rolled belly to back on her own on Saturday.  She has down back to belly, though she's been fairly lazy and only does it when she wants... but for some reason the "easier" belly to back hadn't happened (she's too caught up in attempting to move forward then to roll to the side)  She hasn't done it alone since, but I'm sure she will more often because....

On Tuesday, she rolled over back to belly 4x in the crib!  So far she's only rolled while playing on the activity mat, but when I put her in the crib for a nap I was sitting in the chair facebooking or something on my phone and when I looked up she was on her belly.  I told her good job and flipped her back.  Within seconds she rolled over again.  Like I said, this happened 4x before she finally decided to cool it and nap.

First tooth!  (yeah, I probably should have mentioned this one way earlier, but it's not what you think!)  Technically, her first tooth is her right bottom MOLAR.  Um, yeah, MOLAR.  Except, it's not.  Part of the tooth has poked through the front of her gums super low. Naturally I googled, since a 5 month old baby couldn't possibly have a molar and it seems for other babies this happened to, the gums eventually swelled back over and it went back "in" and came up where it's supposed to when it's supposed to after about a year of age.   At least this explains why she's always chomping so far back and not in the front.  I think this is also why her sleep got a bit better.  She was so unhappy at the end of last week.  I noticed it on Friday and then it seems things turned the corner after that.

[Shopaholic] Recent Splurging

Some recent pickups for baby...

(1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7

And some for momma...
(1) (2)

I grabbed some loot for Ashlynn during Old Navy's baby sale, but most of the items have already been stored away since they were in 12-18 month sizes - I just couldn't resist.  And last Saturday, Anthro had a one day 20% Off for card holders sale, I grabbed some AG Petite Leggings and a color block easy peasy top.

Funny how much more A got to add to her closet, it's only downhill from here!

[Wednesday's Weekly Check-In] Week 22

16lbs, will get weighed this Friday at her follow up GI appointment.

Those teeth.  Aside from the pain she's having and a few side effects, she's healthy (just not always happy)!

Eek.   While I still do bed time routine, which has reverted back to nursing to sleep, after her first wake up she's back in the pack n play in the bedroom to make things easier for me.  It's a lot easier to nurse her in bed or pop in a paci quickly if she's in our room, as opposed to spending half my night watching the monitor, nursing in her room, and trying to get her to back to sleep in the crib.  She's gone back to waking the moment her head hits the mattress, so I have to make sure she's out.  (Is this week 12 or 22??)

Last night (for example)
Asleep in crib at 7:30
Wake at 8:30, change, nurse, back down at 9 in the PNP
Wake at 12:30, change, nurse, down around 1.
Wake at 2:30, pacifier and hold.
Wake at 3:30, popped the paci in a few times, finally up, change, nurse, down.
Wake at 4:30 - can't remember what we did, just know the news was on.
Wake at 5:55, up for the morning!

yeah. it's a blast.

Naps have been the bigger problem.  Some days I only get like three 30 minute naps or so, others are closer to normal.  Saturday she did take a two and half hour nap, that was amazing.  Amazing how productive I was.  I actually haven't been leaving the house much as I'm working so hard on her getting sleep during the day, so she can sleep better at night.  Sleep begets sleep in this house.

Mainly 3-6, but more specifically she's kind of all over the place.  Still fits comfortably in her 0-3 Gap chambray dress, 3-6M onesies have some nice growing room in them, 3-6M sleepers (anything with legs) are tight and her cloth diaper is creating some "fluffy butt" (an affectionate term to CD moms) camel crotch, and pants are mess.  She's so short, that 3-6 are too long, but her diaper is so bulky that the next size up isn't so tight.  We sort of avoid pants for this reason.

Oh and those baby UGGs are huge on her...

Unfortunately, A hasn't been too social.  With the nap refusal, up all hours of the night, teething meltdowns, etc. We've stayed home for the most part.  I actually missed one of my close friend's 30th Birthday party because A was too needy and I was too exhausted.

Poor baby.  We've had a lot of hysterical moments this last week.  We visited Pop Pop and Nana on Sunday for brunch and she cried almost the whole time :(  This was the first time she's cried "in public" (outside of the home or car).  She's usually so distracted by her surroundings she's so well behaved when we head out.  This time, she wanted to gnaw on something and she wasn't going to hold back!

A grabbed her feet on her own for the first time!  She's usually fascinated by them when in a seated position, but while I was changing her diaper the other day, she grabbed her toes herself.

Oh, and she turned 5 months yesterday!

[Wednesday's Weekly Check-In] Week 21

For anyone who knows me, or reads this blog, knows I am not short on words.

However, this post will be.  To say we've been having sleepless nights (and days) seems like an understatement.  I haven't had many free moments to blog, let alone get my own Zzz's in.

Weight:  Over 15.5lbs

Teeth are definitely there, but the teething doesn't seem too bad.  Usually seems to bother her most around late afternoon.  That could also be because she's exhausted, but that's when she cries and is  only stopped by a teether or cold washcloth.

Her digestive issues seemed to be awesome, then on Saturday she was a bit pukey at night.  More than her usual spit up.  A day or two later I spotted some blood back in the diaper after almost 2 weeks with no signs.  Haven't seen it since, so hoping it was just something passing from before, not something new starting up.

Ugh. We had made so much progress last week.  By last Wednesday and Thursday, we were totally good with bedtime routine, feeding, and putting her in the crib drowsy and going to sleep on her own.  After night wakings I could do the same.  Then Saturday came where we traveled to NJ and she slept in the car both ways and seemed to be thrown off her nap schedule.  Despite the sleep, that night was a nightmare and it's been the same since.  4 Month Sleep Regression is finally settling in.

Last night went like this.

Bath at 6:30, lotion, jammies, feeding, in crib at 7:00
Crying, Crying, Crying. Finally rocked and nursed again back to sleep 8:00
Up at 11:30, quick change and feeding, back in crib at 12:00 (woohoo)
Up at 1:30, feed, rock, watch her thrust around in crib until asleep at 2:30
Up at 3:30, feed, put down cry cry cry, poop, change, cry, poop, change again, rock, feed, rock, down after 5.
Up at 6:30 and finally napping now at 9am.

Mimi came to visit on Wednesday and got lots of giggles out of A.  She babysat her for the first time on Friday night when we headed to a wedding.  A did pretty good going to sleep at bedtime, and good thing because that seems like that was the last time she did.

Saturday we went to a twin girl baby shower and she was a peach, as usual around others.

See "Sleep".

First Babysitter (Mimi)
First major sleep regression.

Monday was the anniversary of the day I found out I was pregnant (9/10/11).  It was a few days early to test, but I hoped the silly consecutive date would bring me some luck...  As a celebration I put Ashlynn in thee onesie.

[Wednesday's Weekly Check-In] Week 20

As of Friday at her GI doctor appointment, she was 15lbs 7.6oz and 23.9".  They apparently like to be very precise.  So yeah, 15 and half pounds and two feet long at four and half months, little growing girlfriend!

Met with the GI Specialist and as of right now, we plan to continue my elimination diet. I'm also dropping a sample off for some testing, and there is a chance of some sort of 'scopy' (forget the name) that would test for allergies.

At this point, I am starting to see some improvement, so I really hope its just a dairy and/or soy allergy that I can manage without switching her over to a Alimentum formula.

In other news, I'm not 99.9% convinced she is in fact teething.  Signs have continued and she's becoming fussier at certain times of the day where nothing seems to help, except for maybe something in her mouth.  I also see and feel the start of buds under her gums.  The problem is since she's only 4.5 months, she doesn't really have the finesse to put a teether in her mouth and keep it there.  Also, a lot of the teethers I have to to big for her little mouth. (faves so far in baby gear below)

I started sleep training, Sleep Lady method, last week.  The first night she did cry for an hour, since like most methods it wants you to put her down drowsy, but awake.  The difference is, I don't leave the room, or have scheduled checks (which always made her more hysterical).  I stay right there by the crib.  Which might sound like even worse torture for the mom, but it was easier for me.  Knowing she was only crying because she was frustrated for not knowing how to fall asleep - or get her way and have me pick her up, was easier for me.   I was able to soothe her the best I could without picking her up.  The next night, she was down as soon as put her in the crib, and I'd say on average the last few nights she'll fuss for 15 minutes before going to sleep.

I didn't plan on dropping a night feeding, but perhaps extending her 5am wake up to 6.  Now that she's teething, I figure I'll still feed her when she wakes, but keep at the part of not letting her fall asleep on me.

3-6, though I was able to get her in a BabyGap 0-3 dress without any problems since she's such a shorty.

On Sunday, the Husband had his Fantasy Draft, so us wives threw a surprise Sprinkle for the the first mommy of the group to expect baby #2.  It was so fun to get all 4 girls together (and 1 boy and 2 twin girls on the way!) It's crazy how quickly our group has grown in size!

Since her son will be sharing a room with her two year old daughter, the bedroom is done in the Hungry Caterpillar theme, with the baby have the caterpillar bedding and the toddler having the butterfly.  We played off that and did a Hungry Caterpillar theme (thanks pinterest)!

(not totally pinable, but I tried!)

Car ride home of doom.  While traveling back Sunday, as soon as we hit the bridge into PA, she started the meltdown of meltdowns.  I pulled over after the toll, and got in the back and the husband drove the rest of the way.  She was so hysterical we pulled over on the side of the road, I took her out of her seat (I don't know if that's even allowed!) to try to soothe her.  I tried feeding (even though I knew she wasn't hungry) and she just didn't stop.  I put her back in, and we got back on the road.  I was able to distract her with a teether and a toy in between cries, but man. Whoa.   Since then, we have a few inconsolable times throughout the day that aren't related to sleep or milk (her usual only reason for crying).  It's the teeth.

I picked up teething tablets, but they have lactose in them (inactive ingredient), so we won't be able to use them.

Get this.

While making a run to Babies R Us with the Husband on Labor Day, A's paci fell out and she yelled... "maaa maaa!"  The family in the aisle, who weren't speaking English as their first language, all giggled as I proded the Husband with "Did you hear that?! Did you?!"  So they definitely heard it too!

Now, I'm not that crazy to realize she doesn't have association yet, but it was still nice to hear and made me gloat annoyingly all night long.   It was also a new constant sound, as she primarily sticks with Bs, Cs, Gs... I've been working on L's, so M was a surprise.

She also had her first trip to the beach.

[InstaWorld] Life Lately

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend!

(Happy Birthday to my Mom, Dad, and Brother in Law!)
