Esty + FedEx + Snapfish = Major Heart Thumpage

Well this post's contents is pretty predictable from the title...

Let's work through this equation backwards shall we??

Snapfish:  Because I'm a member of Snapfish, Shutterfly, Phanfare, Kodak Gallery, and lord knows what else, I get multiple emails throughout the week with a variety of photo offers and coupon codes.  Last week, I was offered 100 4x6" pictures FREE with any purchase.  I ordered a few 8x10s to try out in the frame in the bedroom (also known as the "Creepy Child Frame")... and ordered 48 prints free, because let's face it finding 48 was a stretch...

moving on...

FedEx:  Yup.  Delivery man came today as scheduled, kind of felt bad for the poor chap since its like 15degrees out.... bbbuttttt not bad enough to not get my package on time....

EtsyA few months back I rambled on about wanting a custom Quote Frame.  After reading lots of mooshy quotes, the lyrics to our first dance song, and even our vows, the Husband and I decided we liked the sample quote best - go figure.  I messaged Renee at Nestlings and a week later we have our custom frame...

It's a beaut!

... in a weak attempt to get your heart thumping (for something you didn't order), here's the anticipatory reveal...

is that even a word??

Time to slice you open....
you look like a bird... or a spaceship
everyone knows I don't care for hot pink, but I do like polka dots...
extra freebies!! such cute chalkboard labels! (and chalk, natch!)
here we go
Yay!!
The frame is hand cut and hand painted, I love that Renee aged the edges...

So after picking a picture from my Snapfish order and cutting it to size, it was time to hang the frame.
(I'm still working on re-decorating the ledge.  Its the home of MANY snowmen during the holidays, now its soo bare...)

And because last time I raved about my Sugarboo Frame I never showed a picture of it hanging in our entryway...

And just because it's worth noting, a 20x20 Sugarboo Frame will run you $250.  My 16x16 (handmade) Nestlings Frame (with my choice of quote, color, and font type) was $65.  --insert heart thumpage here--

Shop It To Me is RIGHT!!

Before I was ever a member of RueLaLa, HauteLook, BeyondtheRack, Gilt, or OneKingsLane, I was subscriber to 'Shop It To Me'  Sale (e)Mail updates.  I'm actually still a bigger fan of these emails that the sample sales, since the sample sales take some skill in correctly navigating and stalking your item so you can place it in your cart and sit on it before someone else can have the chance to do the same damn thing.... in short, when they have a great designer, its super annoying to actually buy something.
(click the links above to join the any of sample sale madness)

Now, Shop It To Me is more of an alert tool that you can set up preferences for how often you want to be alerted that your favorite brands have items you are looking for (dresses, tops, jeans, shoes, purses, etc. etc.) in the specified sizes and price ranges you want.

Because these emails hold the "BUT IT'S ON SALE!" aura, I've set my alerts for only twice a week - Mondays and Thursdays.  Some days I fill up virtual shopping carts at too many websites to count, others I simply delete the email without even checking to see what's good.

Today... I looked.  And I liked.

A lot.

Here are some (well many) of my favorites from my Shop It To Me alert....

Painting the town Grey... or, Blue: Part Deux

As I mentioned in my impulsive buying husband post, we had a LONG list of To-Dos for the past weekend.  The most obvious, was to finish painting our bedroom... since when we last left off it was only here...

So as the Husband went to get a new/old TV, I was left to tackle the rest of the edging and trim myself... I did everything I could so the husband could easily roll out some paint - like he does best - when he got home and we could be finished with the Master Makeover...

Even though I wish there was a bit more grey to the grey-blue ratio, we are both super stoked with the new color.  The whole room just has a different vibe...

And yeah, painting the offwhite/yellow/dingy/dirty looking baseboards, trim, and doors really made a refreshing difference...  Look!

So dingy!!! It's like the Cheer commercial, you know with the Swedish maid, ya, no.. ok nevermind...

Well, here are some "After" shots.  The curtains are scheduled to arrive today, but I have yet to put in the order for the Pottery Barn curtain rod, maybe I'll do that now....  I'm hoping the curtains will 'pull' the room together a little more as it seems like it's still missing something to me....

It's B-Boy approved!

I'll see if I can get a no-flash picture of these, because I think they look great against the new wall color
(as opposed to the old peach/makeup... bleggghh)

(...and we lowered them - I blame Husband for a bad eye when I was holding these to measure 1st time around)

while I wish our furniture was a dark espresso as opposed to cherry, I gotta say, I think it looks pretty damn good against the new lighter walls...

Soo much better bright white
... except now its obvious we need to add a hardware change to our To-Do list...
~the brass makes me wanna vom~

I think this is the bare spot that is bothering me... I know it'll help when the window panels are up....

See, it is a heavenly retreat!...The tranquility of it all soothed Baxter right to sleep (...or our super smoosh down comforter - which is neither here nor there)....

Can any of you decorating savvy readers suggest something that will help pull the room together a bit more??

[the impulsive] Shopaholic: Husband Edition

Yup, still here playing Home Improvement....

Yesterday was a big day.... and while we had a lot on the To-Do list, the husband did what he does best and made an impulsive purchase.  We are now the owners (again) of a 57" Sony Projection screen TV.   I suppose this warrants a short back story....

Once upon a time, Husband was TV Sitting for a friend who moved in with his girlfriend and had no room or reason to bring along his 57" Projection Screen TV.  Instead of paying for expensive storage or selling it, he loaned it to my husband to watch (pun not entirely intended).  Well, when we bought our house in Summer 2008, the TV was still being babysat, so that gigantic sucker came with to our house - and totes made the best basement TV ever!  I mean it's big and old, what else would you want for a Man Cave that is also the home of two pups... not something new or fragile, that's for sure.

(about a month after we moved in - Aug 2008)

(was in the process of painting all the trim and doors white, but see how The B loves his comfy Man Cave chairs)

Enter Spring 2009, said friend decides his girlfriend's parents could really use a TV that isn't wood paneled and equipped with rabbit ears, so the U-Haul shows up and the TV be gone...

(Good Bye foster child tv, you were a perfect fit- literally)

While you'd think we wouldn't have minded (and we really didn't) since it wasn't OURS, it was just perfect for Wii and for watching endless hours of netflix while training Penny that the house is NOT her potty.

Look at the little Peanut.. so wittle...

Well, we've mentioned it'd be nice to get another TV down there, no cable box, but strictly for Wii and movies (since we have these super comfy recliners -see B chillaxin above - that are now getting 0 use) and let's face it, there is no room for bowling in our living room (or an inconspicous hiding spot for the Rock Band drum set)... so, for whatever random reason, Husband was perusing Craigslist yesterday morning, he found a 57" Sony Projection screen TV listed for sale... 5 hours, a Budget rent a truck, and $300 later... we are back to where we started....

ta-da

Again, just for a recap...

Recipe Share Sunday: 'Awesome Baked Sea Scallops'

This recipe is courtesy the Husband... well, actually it's courtesy Allrecipes.com if you want to get all technical on me, but let's let him have his shining moment in the sun, mmmkay? Knew you guys would understand...

We had these on Friday night, and I hadn't thought to evidence it until I was about to take my first bite, so the pics aren't overly 'artsy' (read: appetizing)... just TRUST that they were delicious...

Ingredients:
16 sea scallops, rinsed and drained
5 tablespoons butter, melted
5 cloves garlic, minced
2 shallots, chopped
3 pinches ground nutmeg
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup bread crumbs
4 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup chopped parsley
lemon wedges for garnish (optional)

Preparation:
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Place scallops, melted butter, garlic, and shallots in a bowl. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Stir gently to combine. Transfer to a casserole dish.
  • In a separate bowl, combine bread crumbs and olive oil. Sprinkle on top of scallops.
  • Bake in preheated oven until crumbs are brown and scallops are done, about 11 to 14 minutes. Top with parsley, and serve with lemon wedges on the side.

 Enjoy!

Window Shopping: Neutral Metallic Flats

I'm in the market for some new flats.  And since I wear flats almost daily because I work in a casual office environment, I need a pair that is not only comfortable, but versatile in color and details.

Right now, I'm loving the neutral metallics that are being shown for spring... let's take a gander...

Obviously, my expected starting place - J.Crew

Marjorie metallic leather ballet flats - J.Crew
$98 - jcrew.com

Shimmerveil leather ballet flats - J.Crew
$128 - jcrew.com

I would love these if they weren't reflective patent, maybe a metallic pebbled leather (you think you can handle that Tory? I mean, I'm not giving out awesome suggestions for my health)...

Reva Rose Gold Leather Ballet Flat - Tory Burch
$195 – Jildor

'Jeneva' Flat - Sam Edelman

Eloquant - Nine West

Cute design, great price, but not a fan of the satin fabric -- dirty disaster written all over them for me....

Dame Flat - Charles By Charles David
$59.95 $32.97– Endless.com

L' ETOILE  at YOOX.COM
$75 $49 - yoox.com
(Save 60% off sale items, no code necessary)

BP. 'Prissy' Flat -  Nordstrom

And I should be shopping not buying, but these are irresistible.  Coral, Shimmery Nude, and Bows... so springy!!   Please talk me out of (or into) purchasing these!

Kirsten by Lillybee
