Couples Quality Time

I totally forgot to share what the Husband and I did last Sunday (well, aside from watching 8+ hrs of football)...

(in shaded rainy day morning light)

We finally painted the wall.  We used Sherwin Williams Sandy Ridge, and all paints were 40% off last weekend to boot!

We still need to add some more pizazz to the room, some new throw pillows, curtains, and seasonal table runner on next on my list...

[Wishlist Wednesday] The Strict List

First things first, dear readers.  I went to the mall last night to pick up something to wear this weekend.  I just can't get over my aversion to Forever 21... so after wasting some time in there, I headed to Express.  They are having a big clearance sale and everything is an extra 20% off the current mark down price.

So going through the racks, I found tons of ruffled and floral mini's and finally saw one lone purple ruffled mini for $9.99!  It wasn't my size so I found one that was in the regular section and when I took both to the register, the sales assistant told me the purple one was marked down by mistake, but she gave me price anyway since they mismarked it.

So for $7.99, this little thang came home with me...

Mini Ruffle Tiered Skirt – Express $34.50 (real price)

I still picked up the metallic belted shorts.  So whichever ones I don't wear, will go back.  I still really love the shorts... they are enough sparkle to be dressy and the 2 1/2" inseam is definitely short enough to show off my (little) gams....

The sequin mini just isn't me.  I feel like I'm trying to be Snooki and I'm just not ok not being myself at the ripe ol' age of 27.  I spent years in college trying to 'fit in'... I'm over it.  My personal style is far from "glam", but I'm confident I make whatever I decide to wear work.

Ok, now moving on to this week's wishlist.  This "Strictlist" is my guide to the ONLY things I'm allowing myself to purchase next month.  I satisfied a lot of spots on my wishlist this month, from the Oxer Jacket to new Hudsons, and finally replacing my dying black flats with some classic Tory Burch Revas (buy them now for 20% OFF at Bloomingdale's Friends and Family sale, coupon code FALLFRIEND).

So now it's time for the dreaded shopping ban.  I am allowing myself to purchase makeup and skincare when Sephora's Friends and Family starts - which I'm still not sure of the start date, but last year it was October 20th.  Other than that, these are the only items.... and ONLY if they are on SALE!!!
Breezy Polkas Cardigan - Anthropologie $98

Insouciant Tank - Anthropologie $58

Pick a Bunch Cardigan - Anthropologie $128

And I know these won't go on sale, but if I don't buy anything else, then these are my treat.

Patent Eddie Flat - Tory Burch $178

Ugh I hate shopping bans.... but it's necessary. I need to work with what I got for a few weeks.

Do you ever instate shopping bans??

[Paper Doll Polyvore] Fall Styling Fun

Since I've been laid up on the couch recently not feeling 100%, I've been passing the time playing around on polyvore.

I've been playing with some items I already own, some I recently acquired, and others I either missed out or haven't quite pulled the trigger on yet.   Either way, I'd thought I'd do a post sharing my styling ideas.

Items I own with my newly acquired (but not yet received) Free People Skinnies in black....

Another set with the Lilac Graces Tank, newly acquired Hudsons, and the Field Game Cardi in grey....

Two items on my 'sale' wishlist... the Cotton Candy Clouds Cardi and the Insouciant Tank...

Cotton Candy Clouds Cardigan

A set I did for Roxy's Effortless Anthropologie Mini Editor Challenge... which I'm now obsessed with all items...

Any favorites?

[Window Shopping] Bachelorette Party Outfit Ideas

Hey Readers, once again my bout of indecisiveness has me running to you for some input.

This upcoming weekend will include the time honored tradition of bacheloretting through NYC's swankiest clubs and, hello, what is a Cardigan Queen to wear?

I've checked the weather and decided I'm going to avoid pumps.  One because traipsing around the streets of NYC will probably leave my tootsies aching, not too mention probably ruining my new cute grey suede pumps... so my black Ash Ono boots it is.

Now, because I'm sure most of the other girls are wearing dresses, I want to fit in while still...
  • being comfortable
  • dressing like myself (not someone else I'm trying to be)
  • not spending a lot of moola because hey NYC ain't cheap and I could save a few pesos...
I initially thought maybe I'd grab a little skirt like one of these, and pair it with my boots, some black tights (if cool enough), and maybe my black top with lace sleeves, or my black lace tank over a blush cami....

Pins and Needles Circle Skirt – Urban Outfitters $58

Cooperative Printed Skirt – Urban Outfitters $38

Silence & Noise Cutout Ballerina Skirt – Urban Outfitters $78

Sequin Mini Skirt – Express $39.90

Rosy Lace Skirt – Forever 21 $17.80

Twelve By Twelve Asymmetrical Ruffle Skirt – Forever 21 $29

Tiered Knit Skirt – Forever 21 $12.50

Then, this morning while perusing through my October Instyle Magazine... it hit me..

Tweed Shorts!

...I could release my inner Carrie Bradshaw and wear something totally on trend without being a clone of every one else!

I first was drawn to this during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale catalog....

While something about it is "Clarissa Explains It All" meets "Clueless" for me... it's something I'd totally wear if I had a place to wear it - because let's face it, tweed shorts with tights and boots is not really a "work wear" or "weekend grocery shopping" look....

2 1/2" Belted Tweed Shorts – Express $54.90

Wool Blend Shorts – Forever 21 $17.80

Hay Ride Shorts – Anthropologie $88

So what do you think readers?  Skirt or Shorts??

[Recipe Share Sunday] Low Fat Zucchini Bread

You may remember, this is one of the many things I baked up last weekend and it's a bit amusing where the recipe comes from.... my 7th grade Home Ec class!

That's right readers, I'm almost positive this was the first thing we learned to bake.   It was so good, so I brought the recipe home for my mom and we've been making it ever since.

Low Fat Zucchini Bread

1 Egg
2 Egg Whites
1/3 C Vegetable Oil
2/3 C Skim Milk
2 C Sugar
2 C grated zucchini (packed)  - about 1 LARGE zucchini or two smaller ones
1 tsp Vanilla
3 C Flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon

  1. Preheat oven to 350

[Inspired By] Fall!

Recently I've had the cases of the blahs... like real life am actually a bit sick blahs, but I'm starting to feel better and have noticed that the blahs have transferred to our "great" room area.

You may remember months ago we started to stripe the living room, but taping 23' rows just was NOT working out for our OCD, so we painted the wall one solid color.  The problem was, the color we used would have been great for our subtle striping accent, but kind of dull for a full wall.  In most certain light, you can't even tell there is a difference between the wall and the rest of the room.

Now that we are finally getting some free weekends, I thought I'd post some some 'cozy' and 'homey' rooms to inspire me (and maybe you too) to start giving our great room it's much needed makeover.

... and clearly, we are sticking with the warm brown and taupe theme....
