[OOTD] Engagement Party and Gift Ideas

Continuing on with our busy end of summer schedule, yesterday we attended a friend's engagement party.  The couple lucked out as the rain held off for their casual backyard BBQ celebration.

It was the perfect day to wear a cute little sundress... so glad I snagged this dress on sale for $29.99 last month.

Kimchi Blue Colorblock Strapless Dress - Urban Outfitters (NOW $19.99!)
R2 Shell T-Strap Sandals - Piperlime, summer '10
Flower Print Skinny Bangles - Express, ancient

If you like want one for yourself, they are now $19.99!

I always find that getting the *perfect* gift can be become a stressful chore, so I thought I'd share my "Engagement Gift" ideas with you readers in case you also stress over the opportunity to be Martha Stewart the perfect guest.

I like to stay away from gifts that are more "Bridal Shower" gifts (not meaning these can't double for that event), but a handmixer and spatula don't really say "Congratulations on your engagement!"  the way they do "Let's shower the bride with lovely items to start a new home"...

So here are my favorite picks...
Monogrammed Mugs - Anthropologie $6 only $6 a piece you can get two with each of the couple's first initial, or a set of 4 with the couple's  last initial-to-be

Oliver Vase - Crate & Barrel $34.95

Blomster Vase - Ikea $14.99

Love Story Crystal Vase - Mikasa $49.99
A nice vase is perfect for the newly engaged couple, as now they'll have something to display all their flowers in... and a great excuse for him to bring her flowers on the regular ;)

Kirsi Flute - Crate & Barrel $12.95
I grabbed two of these pretty little champagne flutes and bottle of bubbles for the happy couple to toast with on their upcoming 'pre-anniversary' next month

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  Do you have a 'go-to' engagement gift?

  1. What great ideas! You are so right, finding the perfect gift can be so stressful! I'm going to keep some of these in mind :) Love the monogrammed mugs and flutes!

  2. UO dresses are usually TUNICS on my tall a**, but I love this dress (and that other colorblocked one!0 OH so much. I just bought this one. I am crossing my fingers and toes that it fits me :-) We'll see....and now I'm scouring ebay for that colorblock dress. It looks 1,000 times better ON someone in real life.

  3. What is the sizing like on that dress? I'm a 34B and usually a 0/2 in dresses...thanks!

  4. You look super cute in that dress!

  5. You look adorable!!! That dress is so cute on you.
Great gift ideas too - I love the Anthro monogrammed mugs.

  6. You look sooo cute! I love that dress on you! =) I love your gift ideas. They're so helpful! Especially when I've had half a dozen weddings to attend this year!

  7. you look so pretty! i'm loving that sundress!

  8. LOVE that dress!

  9. Thanks everyone!!

Tina, the dress is TTS for the most part but the chest is tight! Once it's on it's ok, but getting all those little buttons closed is a task... I'm a 32A (in denial), so I would probably suggest going up a size if you feel your a bit bustier (I'm wearing an XS)

  10. Love the dress! I have found some of the cutest dresses at UO for super cheap at the end of each season.

I remember when we got engaged, my friend gave me a set of nice champagne flutes that we only use on our anniversary. So every year, I take the out of their pretty box and hubby and I sip on some bubbly (we also give a tiny little sip to our doggie Lola since she loves bubbly so much and she was the reason we got married).

  11. Rosa - UO has some great pieces, but sometimes requires a little digging... I'm all for it since their sale section rocks...

My bf got us champagne flutes for our wedding and we were planning on doing the same thing as you for our anniversary :) It's nice to have little traditions... (and I love that you give lola the bubbles)
