Kitchen Inspiration

Yay!  We finally got a quote for our kitchen reno from our contractor (the one who snazzed up our faulty master bath) and it's in a range we feel comfortable paying.  Sure, we could roll up our sleeves and do (some) of the work ourselves, but for the price we are happier knowing that a professional will be doing it saving us unnecessary arguments and potentially some 'first timer' blunders...

I love the clean and airy look of white cabinets, which is why we are having our builder grade 'honey oak' cabinets revamped.  We are replacing our lavender ::shudders:: laminate counter with granite and getting a snazzy back splash (inspired by the looks I drooled over HERE).

Aside from the clean and crisp look of gleaming white cabinets, they are super versatile in terms of home style.  With the right decor elements, they can be Modern or Contemporary, as well as, Country or Traditional, or even my favorite styles Farmhouse and Beachy.  Which will no doubt raise our home's potential to sell in the future, since a future buyer can change their look with a can of paint for the walls, personalized art, and some countertop accessories...

Here are some white cabinet kitchens that make me super excited for our own!

Do you like white cabinets or do you prefer the sleek and modern look of ebony or dark brown espresso cabinets in the kitchen??  Or are you perfectly content with the look of the '80s and '90s "oak"?

  1. I like white cabinets, just not MY white cabinets which are yucky. I am a HUGE fan of the cabinets with glass cut outs - either frosted or not, I think they look really really sleek and modern. I think your inspiration pics are great and can't wait to see the final product.

That being said, I say great decision on hiring a pro. Hubbs and I...well hubbs, really. Have taken on several DIY projects over the last 6 months and it has caused major bickering, arguing and fighting for unnecessary reasons. I think unless you are YHL you stick to the Pro's for these sorts of things.

  2. Haha Kristen, EXACTLY! We don't mind some painting, swapping of light fixtures, adding/changing decor, but demo-ing a counter, reinstalling a new sink, and stripping, sanding, priming, painting, and protecting 20+ cabinets is a little out of our comfort level.

I mean I do have plans to strip/sand/prime/and paint out hallbath vanity, but the scale of that job is something I can tackle. The kitchen being big in size and typically the biggest selling feature in the home, I don't want it to be a shotty job.

  3. I am SO jealous you guys are going to have yours done professionally! we're also making big changes in our kitchen, most of which we're doing ourselves... and the first to go are the ugly oak cabinets... which will be replaced with white! I love white kitchens... there are just so many design choices when you have a clean slate to work with! I can't wait to see it when it's all done!

  4. Yeah, I think the only thing we'd be able to take on is the cabinets, but like I said to Kristen, its just A LOT of work... if we had 1/2 as many to do we might reconsider, but its a big job.

The counter is something I don't want to mess with since we are keeping our cab's. Knowing our amatuer ways we'd prob end up demoing the thing then spending even more money trying to fix our mistakes...

I think we are hopefully picking out our counter surface, tiles, and sink this weekend. I'll def post if we do!

  5. I really like the look of white cabinets.. but Paul prefers the dark wood and stainless look. Since he will be doing the work in our future home (in a few years from now), he'll probably get what he wants.

I love picture you posted with the open stairway in the kitchen... drool. That kitchen is beautiful. Industrial sinks in the island? Yes, please.

  9. Girl23 - I actually really like dark wood cabinets too... they aren't my personal style since I'm super drawn to beachyfarmhouse looks, but I think dark cabinets are really contemporary and sleek. ... sidenote: that stairway is awesome!

Kelsey - Maybe I'll post the pics of what the kitchen looked like when we purchased the house later this wk... great new appliances, decent floor, but boy were the walls, cabs, and counter a sight!

Amber & V - Thanks! It's amazing what you can find in a google search ;) haha
